بحث الرئيس عبد الفتاح السيسي مع ألبرتو كالديرون، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة أنجلو جولد أشانتي، خطط الشركة للتوسع في قطاع التعدين المصري وضخ استثمارات جديدة في عدد من المواقع الواعدة، بما يفتح المجال أمام اكتشاف وتطوير مشروعات جديدة على غرار منجم السكري للذهب.
وجاء اللقاء، الذي عُقد في 28 سبتمبر 2026 على هامش افتتاح منتدى مصر للتعدين، بحضور الدكتور مصطفى مدبولي، رئيس مجلس الوزراء، والمهندس كريم بدوي، وزير البترول والثروة المعدنية، ومن جانب الشركة ستيوارت بايلي، مدير الشؤون المؤسسية، وهدى منصور، رئيس الشركة في مصر.
ضخ استثمارات شراكة أوسع في قطاع التعدين
ووفقًا لبيان رئاسة الجمهورية، أكد الرئيس تقديره للشراكة الاستراتيجية القائمة مع أنجلو جولد أشانتي، المشغلة لمنجم السكري، مشددًا على اهتمام الدولة بدعم استثمارات الشركة وتوفير البيئة الملائمة لنمو أعمالها في السوق المصرية.
وتناول اللقاء إمكانية تطوير التعاون القائم ليصبح شراكة أوسع في قطاع التعدين، لا تقتصر على تشغيل منجم السكري، وإنما تمتد إلى أنشطة الاستكشاف، ونقل التكنولوجيا والخبرات، وتأهيل وتدريب الكوادر الوطنية، وتطوير سلاسل الإمداد المحلية، إلى جانب جذب استثمارات إضافية إلى القطاع.
وأكد الرئيس استعداد الدولة لتقديم التسهيلات اللازمة لدعم أنشطة الشركة وتيسير أعمالها، في إطار استراتيجية تستهدف التوسع في قطاع التعدين وتعظيم مساهمته في الاقتصاد الوطني.
من جانبه، أكد كالديرون أن مصر تمثل إحدى الوجهات الاستثمارية ذات الأولوية بالنسبة إلى أنجلو جولد أشانتي، مستعرضًا تطورات عملها الحالية وخططها المستقبلية في مصر والأسواق العالمية.
وأوضح أن الشركة تعتزم ضخ المزيد من الاستثمارات خلال الفترة المقبلة في عدد من المواقع التعدينية الواعدة داخل مصر، بهدف تعزيز فرص اكتشاف وتطوير مشروعات جديدة مماثلة لمنجم السكري.
وأشاد الرئيس التنفيذي للشركة بالدعم الذي تتلقاه عمليات أنجلو جولد أشانتي من الدولة المصرية، وجهود الجهات المعنية في التعامل مع التحديات التي تواجه أنشطتها. وتشير المباحثات إلى توجه لتوسيع نطاق التعاون، مع التركيز على برامج استكشاف الذهب والاستفادة من الخبرات الفنية للشركة.
ألبرتو كالديرون: السكري دليل على إمكانات الصحراء الشرقية
وكان ألبرتو كالديرون قد تناول، خلال كلمته في افتتاح منتدى مصر للتعدين، المقومات التي تدعم التوسع في الأعمال التعدينية المصرية، مشيرًا إلى أربعة عناصر رئيسية، هي الإمكانات الجيولوجية، والكوادر البشرية، والبنية التحتية، والدعم الحكومي.
واعتبر كالديرون أن منجم السكري يمثل دليلًا عمليًا على الثروات المعدنية التي تمتلكها مصر، ولا سيما في الصحراء الشرقية التي لا تزال تضم مناطق لم تُستكشف بالكامل. كما تناول أهمية تحديث الأطر التشريعية والمالية، وتيسير التصاريح وتأهيل العاملين لضمان استدامة أنشطة التعدين.
أنجلو جولد أشانتي في مصر
شاركت أنجلو جولد أشانتي منتدى مصر للتعدين 2026 بصفة Partner – شريك رسمي للمنتدى، ضمن قائمة ضمت كبرى شركات التعدين والخدمات المتخصصة المشاركة في الحدث. وعكس مستوى الشراكة حضور الشركة المؤسسي في المنتدى، بالتوازي مع موقعها كمشغل لمنجم السكري وأحد كبار المستثمرين الدوليين في قطاع الذهب المصري. كما أتاح المنتدى للشركة مساحة للتواصل مع الجهات الحكومية والمستثمرين وشركات التعدين والخدمات، في وقت تسعى فيه مصر إلى جذب شركات عالمية جديدة وتوسيع قاعدة الاستكشاف. وجاءت مشاركة أنجلو جولد ضمن حضور دولي واسع مثّل شركات تعدين ومؤسسات تمويل وتكنولوجيا وخدمات مرتبطة بسلسلة صناعة التعدين.
وتملك الشركة، من خلال شركتها التابعة، حصة قدرها 50% في شركة السكري لمناجم الذهب، بالشراكة مع هيئة الثروة المعدنية والصناعات التعدينية المصرية التي تمتلك النسبة المتبقية. كما انتقلت إليها تراخيص استكشاف بالصحراء الشرقية تغطي نحو 1389 كيلومترًا مربعًا، موزعة بين منطقتي نجرس ونجد، بما يوفر قاعدة قائمة لتوسيع أنشطتها الاستكشافية خارج نطاق المنجم.
El-Sisi, AngloGold Ashanti Discuss Expansion into New Gold Exploration Areas in Egypt
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Alberto Calderon, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of AngloGold Ashanti, to discuss the company’s plans to expand its presence in Egypt’s mining sector and make further investments in promising areas, potentially paving the way for the discovery and development of new gold projects similar to the Sukari Gold Mine.
The meeting, held on September 28, 2026, on the sidelines of the opening of the Egypt Mining Forum, was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Karim Badawi. Representing AngloGold Ashanti were Stewart Bailey, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, and Hoda Mansour, President of AngloGold Ashanti Egypt.
Further Investment and a Broader Mining Partnership
According to the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the strategic partnership with AngloGold Ashanti, operator of the Sukari Gold Mine, and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to supporting the company’s investments in Egypt and fostering an environment conducive to the growth of its operations.
The meeting explored prospects for expanding the existing cooperation beyond the operation of Sukari into a broader strategic partnership in Egypt’s mining sector, encompassing exploration, the transfer of technology and expertise, the training and development of Egyptian professionals, the development of local supply chains, and the attraction of further investment.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed the State’s readiness to provide the necessary support to facilitate the company’s activities and operations, in line with Egypt’s strategy to expand the mining sector and increase its contribution to the national economy.
Calderon, for his part, said Egypt remains a priority investment destination for AngloGold Ashanti and reviewed the progress of the company’s major investments in Egypt, as well as its operations globally.
He said the company plans to make further investments in a number of promising mining areas in Egypt, enhancing the potential to discover and develop new projects similar to Sukari.
The AngloGold Ashanti CEO also praised the continued support provided by the Egyptian State and the efforts of the relevant authorities to address challenges facing the company’s operations. The discussions reflected a drive to broaden cooperation, with particular emphasis on expanding gold exploration programmes and leveraging the company’s technical expertise.
Alberto Calderon: Sukari Demonstrates the Potential of Egypt’s Eastern Desert
During his address at the opening of the Egypt Mining Forum, Calderon highlighted several factors supporting the growth of Egypt’s mining industry, including its geological potential, human capital, infrastructure and government support.
He pointed to the Sukari Gold Mine as a practical demonstration of Egypt’s mineral potential, particularly in the Eastern Desert, which remains significantly underexplored.
Calderon also highlighted the importance of reforms to the regulatory and fiscal framework, more efficient permitting processes, and the development of skilled local talent to support sustainable, long-term growth in the mining industry.
AngloGold Ashanti in Egypt
AngloGold Ashanti participated in the Egypt Mining Forum 2026 as an official Partner, alongside major mining companies and specialised service providers. Its partnership status reflected the company’s significant presence at the Forum and its position as operator of the Sukari Gold Mine and a major international investor in Egypt’s gold mining sector.
The Forum provided a platform for engagement with government authorities, investors, mining companies, explorers, technology providers and specialised service companies, as Egypt seeks to attract additional international investment and accelerate exploration across its underexplored mineral provinces.
AngloGold Ashanti’s participation formed part of a broad international presence at the Forum spanning mining companies, financial institutions, technology providers and businesses operating across the mining value chain.
AngloGold Ashanti holds its interest in Sukari through its wholly owned subsidiary, Pharaoh Gold Mines NL, which owns a 50% equity stake in Sukari Gold Mines Company, the joint operating company of the Sukari Gold Mine. The remaining 50% is held by Egypt’s Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA).
Following its acquisition of Centamin in November 2024, AngloGold Ashanti also acquired two exploration licences covering a combined 1,389 square kilometres in Egypt’s Eastern Desert.
The licences comprise the Nugrus Block, covering 848 square kilometres around the Sukari mining concession, and the Najd Block, covering 541 square kilometres approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Sukari. Together, they provide AngloGold Ashanti with a substantial exploration footprint beyond the existing Sukari mining concession.
