نيوز-with English Edition

Harp, Light and Jewellery: Manal Mohie El Din Shines in Suzanne El Masry’s Designs

Knouz.News

The strings of a harp, the sparkle of jewellery, threads of light and a beautiful face accustomed to telling stories through music came together in an artistic photoshoot featuring Egyptian harpist Manal Mohie El Din wearing creations by jewellery designer Suzanne El Masry.

Created to showcase El Masry’s new collection, the shoot brings together the colours and textures of metal with the graceful lines of the harp, making the pieces appear almost like visual notes played through colour.

Manal chose a simple black outfit, free from decoration or strong colours that might compete with the jewellery. The understated styling allowed the lighting, the colours of the pieces and the warm wooden frame of the harp to highlight the designs and their intricate details, without the clothes drawing attention away from the jewellery.

Black also created an effective visual backdrop for shades of blue, green, gold and silver, while directional lighting revealed the variety of metallic textures and the different ways the surfaces responded to light — from bright reflections to softer gleams and shadows that added depth to the compositions.

Colour Notes on the Strings of a Harp

Suzanne El Masry’s new collection moves between free geometric compositions, delicate floral elements and symbols inspired by Egyptian heritage, with colour and unconventional metal forms playing a prominent role throughout the designs.

In one look, Manal wears a necklace composed of elongated metal elements hanging side by side, their slightly varying lengths creating a graduated rhythm around the neck.

The elements range in colour from lime green and turquoise to silvery blue, copper and aged gold. Their rough, irregular surfaces give each section a distinctive interaction with light.

In their repetition and varying lengths, the metal strips resemble small piano keys arranged around the neck, creating a visual rhythm that echoes the long strings of the harp in the background.

Suzanne El Masry Crowns the Eye of Horus with Flowers

Another design features small floral elements in sky blue, turquoise and white arranged along a metal necklace, centred around a pendant inspired by the Eye of Horus.

The pendant combines shades of blue, navy and gold, with lines defining the eye and its ancient Egyptian symbolism.

Blue flowers also appear in the matching earrings, extending the visual language of the necklace around the face while allowing each piece to retain its own identity.

A Contrast of Red and Blue

Another look features a multi-strand metal necklace centred by an oval element in a red-orange shade, surrounded by blue tones, with small dark navy cylindrical elements suspended beneath it.

The composition creates a different mood, contrasting the density of the layered metal chains with the simplicity of the central pendant. The meeting of red and blue forms a clear focal point against the aged metallic tones.

Other images feature a piece combining rows of small pearl-like beads with rectangular metal strips of varying lengths.

Their surfaces carry shades of turquoise, green, blue, violet and gold, linked by a small floral element. On one side, relatively large metal rings extend towards a circular element decorated with raised detailing.

Close-up photographs reveal particular attention to the connecting elements, the way the components sit alongside one another and the variation in their lengths.

Colour and texture are treated here not simply as decorative additions, but as essential elements of the composition itself.

Black Makes Space for Light and Colour

The black clothing plays an important role in the visual composition of the shoot.

Manal appears in a simple outfit that leaves a generous area around the neck and chest, allowing the necklaces and their details to be seen without visual clutter.

This choice also helps the camera capture subtle differences between the colours of the jewellery, making the blue flowers and multicoloured metal elements stand out clearly against the dark background.

In some photographs, the light is concentrated on the face and necklace, leaving much of the surrounding scene in shadow. In others, sections of the wooden harp appear in warm brown tones with golden details, introducing a natural material that visually complements the metal.

The harp is not merely a backdrop.

Its vertical strings echo the hanging metal elements, while the curves of its wooden frame respond to the rounded forms of the necklaces around the neck. The movement of the harpist’s hands and the changing direction of her gaze bring a sense of life and rhythm to otherwise still images.

Manal moves between contemplative expressions and moments in which she smiles at the camera, without disturbing the calm character of the photographs or allowing the jewellery to lose its central place in the composition.

A Dialogue Between Music and the Art of Jewellery

The photoshoot draws its distinctive character from the meeting of two Egyptian artistic experiences: one expressed through music, the other through metal and colour.

Manal Mohie El Din, whose name has become closely associated with the harp and with exploring its expressive possibilities in Arabic music, brings to the photographs a presence that goes beyond simply modelling jewellery.

Suzanne El Masry, meanwhile, presents a new collection that draws on diverse metal forms, contrasting colours and decorative elements inspired by heritage.

In this meeting, the jewellery needs no physical movement to suggest rhythm.

The repetition of elements, variations in length and gradations of colour create a visual sense of movement, much like successive notes within a musical composition.

The photoshoot ultimately becomes a shared space between different art forms, where no element competes for attention and each contributes to the whole.

Only the harp, the light and the jewellery — a beautiful face, and art that knows how to let beauty speak for itself.
